Artist's Description

Coltsfoot is native to Europe and parts of Western and Central Asia. They are the very first wildflowers to bloom in southern New Brunswick each spring. They grow in sandy or rocky areas and the blossoms open in the sunlight but close up on cloudy days. It produces large green leaves after the flowers have died. Traditionally the plant was used for medicinal purposes. However, it has since been discovered that the plant has an agent that damages liver tissue. Passekeag, New Brunswick, Canada.

Captured on a Canon EOS Rebel T3i with an EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II lens
