Artist's Description

Broad-leaved Helleborine is not native to North America but rather to Europe, Asia and parts of Africa. It was introduced to North America some time ago and has since naturalized. It is even considered an invasive weed in some areas of the US. Despite reports that it has done well in eastern North America, it is somewhat rare here in southern New Brunswick. So, it is a real treasure to find it. Broad-leaved Helleborine is a wild orchid. It grows in open wooded areas and usually in damp areas. It blooms in early August for a couple of weeks. Its blooms can be green, pink or even purple. Norton, New Brunswick, Canada. Captured on a Canon EOS Rebel T3i with an EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II lens.
