Artist's Description

This dragon fruit, bought at my local market, reminded me of the exotic fruits I ate during my trip to Vietnam. “Thanh long” (blue dragon) in Vietnamese, this is the fruit of a certain type of cactus.

This imported pitaya didn’t taste nearly as good as the ones I’d had for breakfast in Hoi An or Saigon but I decided to use it for a few still life shots to add to the photobook I’m making of my trip.

Enjoy!

Nikon D7000, Sigma 50 mm macro. 50mm. f/7.1, 1/60s. ISO 200.
RAW conversion: Viewed/selected in Picasa or Nikon View, converted to DNG using Adobe DNG Converter (Adobe CS4 can’t open Nikon D7000 raw files), adjusted brightness and contrasts with NikColorEfex Pro, and saved to jpg in Adobe CS4.
