Artist's Description

This beautiful loch certainly lived up to its gaelic name that day – gorm means blue. It is the largest freshwater loch on the beautiful island of Islay. It is located close to the coast so you can capture both the loch and the sea easily in one shot from the road above. I decided to limit the view to the attractive loch shore and the hill beyond.

Suggested tour – leave the B8018 and head towards Kilchoman and Machir Bay. A couple of miles along there is a small road off to the right leading to the loch where you can park and enjoy a lovely walk. Afterwards stop off for a good meal or snack at the café at Kilchoman Farm Distillery before continuing on to the amazing sands of Machir beach. Back on the circular road go north round Loch Gorm taking another trip down to Sligo beach and the cliffs. Ending back up on the B8018.

Location: Loch Gorm, Islay, Scotland, UK. Nikon D200, Sigma 18-200mm. Captured in RAW.

Featured in Highlands & Islands Photographers, Cover Shots, Landscape Photography, Scotland’s Lochs and Lakes and inland waterways
