Artist's Description

Cydalima perspectalis or Box Tree Moth

What seemed like a pretty night visitor to my home turned out to be an invasive species of moth that is native to Asia but now spreading throughout Europe and causing great harm to the box tree/buxus population. Where there are native predators in Asia to keep damage in check, these predators are not present as such in Europe.

The wingspan of this one was about 30 mm (1.2 in).

Olympus TG-4, 1/40 Sek. f/2,3 5,5 mm, ISO800, microscope mode. Post-pro adjustments in Adobe CC with NikEfex to remove colour cast from indoor lighting.
