The Fight

We were there standing at the front lines, brave and scared shitless at the same time. We held our ground as they surrounded us. We stood tall and resilient even as shots were fired, even as the wounded fell all around us. We were there, hardened and stubborn, unable to move away. At first the minutes turned to hours, then the hours into days, and now the days into weeks, turning over months. Time passing us by and we still stood ready, to fight. To give it all we had, because this is all we had to offer, ourselves, and we were willing to die for it. Others had and we could to. But the fighting only got worse as time wore on. We were losing. We were giving it our all, and it wasn’t good enough. Our strength just didn’t seem strong enough. Now the time has come to either stay and keep fighting a seemingly losing battle, to keep giving it our all until we either are defeated or end victorious, or to walk away, to turn around and retreat, to realize the fight is over and we have lost, to save what’s left of ourselves, so that we may possibly fight again when needed. The time has come. A decision must be made. Which one would you chose?
