Mine

One day you got on a ship and left. I wasn’t even there. I didn’t get to wave goodbye while standing on the pier, but I was still left behind.

You sailed around the world. Once in a while I received word by snail mail. But the messages weren’t very detailed or long. It’s almost like the further you got the less you had to say, the shorter they were.

Years passed.

Then one day you came home. A world traveler. I was still me. Would we recognize each other? We did- instantly.

And everything melted away- the time, the distance- none of it mattered. You were home and you were mine.
