Quietus

Petals fall from lilies dying
Lifeless beauty mourns in vain
A rest to end the toil of trying
Sweet the scent eludes the pain

Laid to rest before a portal
Resplendent hues all fade to gray
Sacrificed for souls immortal
Betrayal spurns the light of day

Time stands still yet roses wither
Brilliance shunned by life’s command
Fate respites while spirits ponder
Mother Earth by Father’s hand
