Chair in the Doorway

Since I’ve been moving towards you,
I’ve been pulling away

I told you I’d be over the fear,
But I built a chair in the doorway
Watching you with lust-filled eyes

Breathing against you, I love to draw you in
But in loving you, I’m weighed by failure.

I’ve had many dreams, you know.
“An Occlusion of Color”
Exhausted by rainbows, wrapped around my neck, choking me like scarves.

I fear to dream because the desert haunts me.
Gorged on a history of regret
Unsure of how far to love,
While loving far enough to be sure

I move in and out of us;
It’s the only way I know

Lingering on the chair in the doorway
Accustomed to loving in phases
Cycles of love streaming through me,

Saturated by comfort, in knowing the unknown
I linger on loving you, while unloving through past love

And I am tired darling.
