The abused Woman

Today I saw how the stone worn building laid claim on the towering pine
Giant concrete angles, boxing in the pine.
A mighty claim on a piece of rooted earth.
The pine, in all its magnitude was dying.
And I wondered if the muscle in that grip knew the price of such design.

I saw my reflection in this pine,
How you held me in your arms while
I withered into shadows.
How while you were laughing in the crowd,
I was leaning, sagging into gravity and you could see it
in the folds of my youth.

People will say " if it was that bad, why didn’t you leave?"
I can only smile in reply.
If you have never been a pine encased in concrete,
then you will never understand.
