Artist's Description

Colum Cille was born in Donegal. Sometimes he is referred to as Columba, which is the Latin for Dove.
He was one of the best scribes of his time &is said to have created over 300 books during his lifetime. One of his works is The Book of Durrow
In 563 he left Ireland with a number of his followers for the west coast of Scotland,where he founded a monastery on the island of Iona & where the Book Of Kells was created
Colum Cille died there on June 9th 597.
