Artist's Description

Byron Creek.
Byron Glacier Trail; Portage Valley, Alaska.
10 July 2008.
Nikon D70s.

The appropriately named Byron Creek runs north to Portage Valley from the similarly named Byron Glacier. The Byron Glacier Trail works its way south from Portage Valley to the glacier, running parallel to this fantastic, crystal-clear, cobblestone-bedded creek.

This photograph was taken in July — and in Alaska, there’s still snow on much of the ground around Portage Valley and the Chugach Mountains. The temperature, however, isn’t that cold. You can quite easily and comfortably walk around the snow trails in shorts and sandals. And you know that sandals are important to me.
