How deep the rising hills
The clustered fig trees
Spiraling into the
Woven heart
By a small splintered
Hole made in the wood
Where from I could gaze
At the mixing webs
The bundling rope
There I could see the hollow dark alleyways
Filled with hairless class
Young men and girls playing in
Rhythmic progression
A make believe fire
The burnt ashes float
Higher and higher
In the dismal belief
These barriers would disappear
One by one

Tomorrow maybe

A train would sound its
Hoarse charged voice
More boots and luggage
Work tomorrow we know
Simple things
That made a life
As a brocade table linen
Torn at the edge
Marked by the singes
Of smoke and fire

Around my waist
I saw it
Around her waist
Through both our eyes as one
Trampled along the forest
Brown and hard
Like the lifelessness
That we came to believe

Who would believe

Out there beyond the
Window barred ledge
Where the air would breathe
For us
And the hands that worked
A quiet still lingering

Silence frigid
Deeply religious
In the binds
From limb to bed
Strangers in between
The creation and apocalypse
Stuck between the rafters of
Hate and fortitude

Where outside in the yard
I saw them play and heard them
And at sleep that stalled
In the wood soiled floor

Artist's Description

Very difficult to phrase another thought that has not been said about the life in a camp in the 30’s and 40’s by those who lived it, survived…But I still think that the restless heart tries to make sense of sensely things and it can’t. But words can create an acceptance of what cannot be changed. Every creative word is a compilation of all things done on this planet, good and bad, that helps us find meaning in senselessness.
