Forest by the Sea

Waves roll in upon the golden sands
A solitary tree weeps from loneliness
With silvery leaves and gemstone berries
Waiting for its lover to come home again
Cold is the heart who stole life’s branches
Carrying it across the vast seas beyond
Never caring for the sorrows left behind
Nor grieve in its wake the troubled soul
The cold heat of summer fades in autumn’s keep
Where frost loosens the leaves
Lost in winter’s death
Never able to see the living wonders of spring
Nor delight in the newness of life’s given pleasures
Only to gaze upon the waters weeping in much sorrow
Watching, ever waiting for the return of her heart
In the horizon a solitary ship appears
With markings familiar of that dreadful night
Could hope remain for yet a little while longer
Or fade into despair for fear of being uprooted
The ship sets anchor just beyond squinting eyes
A long boat casts off heading into shore
Unsure its fate the solitary tree surrenders hope
No longer caring what course lays before her
Suddenly in its haze new visions restore hope
At mid-ship stands her lover
Wrecked from the long sorrowing absence
Now is given new life to forever be together
Planted side by side they blossom with joy
With newness of life the seedlings may now spawn
Unto a forest by the sea
