Summer's Lake

Awake sleepy head
The world’s come alive
A new dawn has risen
To greet you with a sigh
The coffee is brewing
Breakfast is on the table
As the songbirds sing their melodies
To refresh your soul inside
Let’s walk on down to the lake
Where a canoe stands ready to launch
And peddle the glass smooth surface
The only ripples are from its wake
Along the shore the shade trees blossom
Giving relief from the summer sky
As a gentle breeze crosses the lake
Rich with the aromas of the countryside
Cast your lines across the bow
The fish are eager to be caught
Soon supper will call for attention
Beneath the elms’ mighty limbs
Let the sun sink low unto the horizon
Before returning back home again
We’ve spent the whole day relaxing
Upon our summer’s lake in the glen
