Artist's Description

My current fascination with patterns continues unabated.
This pattern was created using my new method, which at its most basic involves setting up a sub-layer in Illustrator containing two separate transform effects, Effect > Distort & Transform > Transform… both of which I set to create two copies moved 400px (the size of my art board_) one on the horizontal and the other on the vertical. This way I can see a 3×3 grid of my pattern as I create it, making it much easier to visualize. to make a pattern swatch, create a 400px X 400px square with no fill or stroke, send it to the bottom of the stack (not inside the sub-layer or you’ll end up with nine squares and it won’t work_) and set it to the crop you want. (make sure you have smart guides turned on to make this as easy as possible) and then drag the whole lot to the swatch Palette One advantage of this technique is that you only have one instance of any element you are using, making it that much easier to edit. It is also good to know you aren’t just limited to a 400px X 400px crop. This pattern was actually created with a 800px X 800px crop.
