Artist's Description

When I first came to this place I got overwhelmed. There was no other way to react! Where I come from, islands are rare, especially islands with desert. Therefore, this kind of view doesn’t exist there. It was the first time for me, and I stood there for several minutes staring at it…

Four volcanoes built up this island. They are all extinct now which guarantees safety to the island settlers. Caleta del Sebo is the name of the town in the photo. Caleta del Sebo is not the capital of the island because the island is administratively aggregated to Lanzarote, but it works as capital because it is the only place where there is a doctor, supermarket, harbor, school and a little bit of comerce. There is also very small village in the right edge of the island (seen from here) which is called Pedro Barba. Those are the only two populations of the island.

Behind Isla Graciosa there is another island uninhabited called Isla Montaña Clara which was basically the result of the lifetime of two volcanoes that are extinct now. Behind all the islands there is a third one called Isla Alegranza, though with a lighthouse and a lighthouse keeper accommodations, nowadays the island is also uninhabited due to the automation of the lighthouse.
