AS THE NIGHT IS STEALING

In the hidden corner of the year
day sleeps on
wrapped in grey the sky yawns
until all cold is gone

Ghosts wander the streets
bound tight, head hands and feet
eyes down thin and callow
dreams he and she of bright tomorrows

Life hangs on in crook and eave
waiting for the wake up call
when dressed in green
chatter the infant leaves

I look beyond the curtained room
to the nether gloom
wondering will we ever wake
and embrace the promised noon

Or unknowing
sleep on, slipping going
ebbing dreaming
as night is quietly stealing

AS THE NIGHT IS STEALING
