the Boat

She cut the wood The Boat
And set it down upon the beach
She planed she formed
She nailed and caulked
A sturdy boat she made
She found the strongest tree
Straight and tall to be the mast
And set it there for me
And canvas sewed to make a sail
With ropes she hauled
And watched it catch the breeze
Next the color of sky
Limitless
She painted it and when it dried
She pulled and pushed
And brought it to the edge
Where coming to my side she said
Here is my gift

Set sail with this your guiding star
Imagination be your breeze
Currents the flow of ideas
Your course un-chartered realms
And boundless be your sea
But in all, in all, my dear love,
return again- where’er the story goes
Return again to me.
