Artist's Description

Each of the brochures shown here represent a selection of my exhibition and design work in the UK and Northern Europe.
The first has to be Jorvik in York, England.
I had been working in Television and Film and had a budding career as an art-director and director.
But since childhood I had had a fascination with museums. I had the idea that instead of being outside the exhibition case, looking into the exhibits- you could be inside somehow inside the story. I had the idea that everything I saw in my local town museum had a story to tell, but how to bring that story alive, and how could you experience the story ?

This question fascinated me as a boy of 12 and stayed with me until I was 30 when I got the biggest break of my life and career. I was commissioned as Project Designer in creative charge of bringing to life the Viking age archaeological site at Coppergate York, which had been rescued from developers by the York Archaeological Trust.

Jorvik, the first version, in place until 2001, was a truly revolutionary break in museum and exhibit design appealing to all the senses and fulfilled my childhood fantasy of creating an immersive experience.

If you would like to learn more about this extraordinary ground-breaking project, which to date has received 16 million visitors since its opening in 1984, then contact me through this site.
My book, which tells my personal story of my dream and the creation of Jorvik is called ‘The Exhibitionist- Smoke and Mirrors’ and is also available through this site.
