An Englishman In New and Old York

Yes I am the proverbial Englishman in New York, and coincidentally from Old York, in Yorkshire, England. I been here in the US twelve years now, six of those in New York.

I live in a part of Brooklyn called ‘Bushwick’ which is crammed with young talent all living in lofts and cardboard boxes and God knows where else. It’s a wonderful dynamic and creative community.
My wife and I have two cafe bars, one of them is in Bushwick- where we feel like the mom and pop sometimes ensuring our creative progeny are fed and watered (actually there’s not much water consumed). The other is in the East Village, Manhattan and is something of a legend as it was where Jonathan Larsen hung out a lot whilst writing the musical RENT. He features the cafe in the musical and it’s where the big song and dance number ‘La Vie Boheme’ is set.
Every month at Bushwick we feature a local artist, but we are not solely bound to show local artists. If any of you out there are interested in having a show for a month in what we call our ‘Salon’ shows please send me sample material or a link to your site- we also exhibit work at our Manhattan place. we call this the ‘Bushwick Bridge’ and don’t charge a commission- our payment is in the showing of fresh new work and in picking up some good pieces occasionally offered to us as a gift to the cafe or at a discount price!
