The Angel

An angel sat above the clouds,
Looking down upon earth’s crowds.
A shining light up in the sky,
She watched as souls were passing by.

With golden hair that shone like fire,
And robed in splendid white attire.
Her eyes of clearest, brightest blue.
Her lips as soft as mountain dew.

Her skin like polished ivory,
Such beauty none should ever see.
Her voice more sweet than Skylark’s song.
To this dark world she could not belong.

She kept her watch on earth below,
Saw our trials and heartaches grow.
She watched the wars tear through the land,
The produce of the greed of man.

With heavy heart she, up above,
Wished the she could bring some love.
Some light and life to this dark place.
So to this end she set her face.

She spied one heart down here on earth.
Cold and lonely and without mirth.
She said “That is the one for me.
I’ll make it laugh again, you’ll see.”

So down here she swiftly came.
For one soul naught would be the same.
Such light and beauty ne’er before,
Had been seen upon this shore.

I know not why my heart she chose,
When all around were cares and woes.
But I give thanks with each new day,
For the shining angel who beside me stays.
