The Fight

Why do we fight?
Is there not enough,
Of hardship and strife,
In this world that’s so tough?

Why do we fight?
So much wasted time.
When holding you close,
Is all’s on my mind.

Yet we argue and bicker,
Of things been and gone.
While I long for a flicker,
Of that love once so strong.

I know that I hurt you,
Darling I’m hurting too.
As I sit here and ponder,
What I’m going to do.

With eyes that are brimming,
And trembling hands.
A heart that is aching,
How much more can it stand?

Sitting here thinking,
Of mistakes that were made,
Of cruel words spoken,
Should’ve never been said.

Now I’m sobbing and bleeding,
And broken and bent.
With my heart lying open,
My strength nearly spent.

I’ve no-where to run to.
I must stand here and fight,
For the love of my life,
For I know that it’s right.

I’ve not much to give you,
No jewels nor gold,
But this broken heart,
Is all that I hold.

Just look deep inside it,
Don’t cast it away.
For that tiny flicker,
Could be raging some day.

For you hold within you,
Deep in your own heart,
The power to strenghten,
To heal and re-start.

And so as you ponder,
My heart in your hands.
Will you find within you,
The grace to withstand,
The temptation to crush it,
To cast it away?
But to tend it and keep it,
Your anger now stayed?

This is my gift,
It doesn’t seem much.
Weary and broken,
But say to it “hush”.

Cradle it gently,
With your tender touch,
Say to it softly,
“I still love you so much”

Then look deep inside it,
A spark burning bright.
Watch as it flickers,
Then watch it ignite.

I miss you so much,
I just want to say.
I’m sorry I hurt you,
And pushed you away.

Now as I sit here,
Thinking why do we fight?
I have not the answer,
Just know it’s not right.

For i love you with all,
That I am and will be.
From the height of the clouds,
To the depths of the sea.

And when time is over,
And we’re called to the sky,
We’ll still be together,
Two stars, side by side
