Artist's Description

Nung Mee, a mother of 2 girls, rolls her homegrown tobacco in a dried banana leaf. She mixes the rough tobacco with wood shavings to make for a milder smoke. It last for hours…The Tai, or Shan, are originally from the Shan state in Burma, but have lived in the border regions of Thailand for more than 100 years. they are linguistically and culturally related to the northern Thais, though their language is almost unintelligible to people in Bangkok. Over the past decade, at least a million Shan people have fled their oppressive homeland to seek work and shelter in Thailand.
Taken on negative film and scanned at low res. Minimal cleaning in photoshop
