Artist's Description

Double headed Stanier “Black Five” locomotives storming up the grade in clouds of steam and smoke hauled the “Buxton Spa Express” steam special. This was taken at Hindley station near Wigan, Lancashire, England.
Introduced in 1934 the “Black 5” locomotive was one of the most successful and popular steam locomotives ever developed and was a real “Jack of all Trades” being equally at home hauling passenger or freight trains.
Photograph taken with a Nikon D700 fitted with a 24-85mm Nikkor lens.
