Stock Photo Site

A friend of mine has suggested that I put some of my photographs on a Stock Photo Site. I wondered if anyone has experience of this and what sites might be worth looking at. Cheers. John

Proud "Father"

Well I went out and purchased a new Nikon D700 with 24 -70 and 70 – 200 lenses. Have a lot to learn so any help and hints would be appreciated. Haven’t learnt (if possible) how to have my exposure and speed setting etc come up on the back screen to make easier looking. Lol

web site help

Just wondered if any Western Australian RB can recommend a company that makes web sites well and for a reasonable price. I like the web site you can produce at RB, but don’t want one where you have to show prices of each photo. Thanks in advance. John

Haven’t been around for awhile and i’m heading to Darwin to do a bit of touring up there for 2 weeks. Hope to get some snaps up there. Will then be back to rejoin the fun. All the best. John

First time

A wine maker here in Western Australia has asked to use one of my pictures of an old wooden house as their wine label for their export wine. Will upload it tomorrow. Feeling quite chuffed. John

New Group

I am considering setting up a new group called ‘critique’. I trust its a new group. I carried out a search and couldn’t find a similar one. If there is please let me know. The purpose of the group is to allow people to post photos (I suggest one a day) and people can then critique the photos offering advice and suggestions. It seems that I need to have two hosts. Is there anyone out there that might be interested. i have no idea how time consuming being a host is. I am happy to give it a go. John

Web Site

I have set up my web site on RB. I don’t seem to be able to add photos that are not for sale. Is this correct? Thanks in advance for any feed back. John

Light Fantastic

For those RB in Western Australia, I don’t know if you are aware that in Fremantle (Notre Dame Lecture Theatre) this weekend is the Light Fantastic Seminars.

There will be two days of photographic seminars and talks etc (I am giving a talk on Saturday at 2.00pm). There are some great photographers giving a talk.
Here is a link about it.

I’m not sure if this is the right place to put tips. Mel might enlighten me.
A good RB friend of mine Tai put me onto what is called the ’Dragan Effect". There is a youtube demo of how to do it. So its in the public domain. I have made a word version. I suggest you listen to the movie and then use the instructions below. You can get some interesting effects:…

1. Duplicate layer
2. Adjust Shadows/highlights
3. Flatten image
4. Levels
5. Adjust Brightness/contrast
6. Duplicate
7. De-saturate
8. Adjust Brightness/contrast
9. Click on duplicate image
10. Control ‘I’ (to show infra red effect)
11. Gaussian blur (approx 45)
12. Use ‘blend’ overlay – adjust to taste
13. Flatten image
14. Duplicate
15. Use ‘burn tool’ (14%) over the dark areas to bring out detail.
16. Use ‘dodge tool’ (14%) over the light areas
