Six Months Later

Its late Autumn.
A grey,
repentant sky.

Leaving my door
I stop to zip up
my jacket
against the wind and rain
once more.

I walk
the same narrow path
through the parks,
across the playing fields,
the deserted golf-links
and the roads . . .

I watch the same river run
resignedly
down to the sea -
its a different month now,
there’s no you,
there’s just me.
