Artist's Description

A heavily restored black and white print from the Archive, showing my mother; Margarita Brotheridge nee Bean. (pictured centre)
1924 – 2000.
At the age of seventeen during the Second World War, my mum proudly volunteered for service in the ATS (Auxiliary Territorial Service).
A snapshot of modern history. This shot of Mum and two other ‘girls’ was I believe taken at High Lea Hall in Cheshire, England circa 1942, where she was billeted at the time. High Lea was nearby to Burtonwood Airfield where Allied and American Forces were stationed. (I understand a great time was had by all!). You will note that all three are smoking which was quite common in group shots of the time.
