The Joy of Spring

Gentle breeze blowing
Warm sun on your back
Beautiful blossoms, covering bushes
White snowballs and pompoms too.
Delicate pink flowers
Line the branches of fruit trees
Before the leaves grow.
Clover and daisies flower in the lawn
Grasses are ready to seed.
Bees merrily buzz all around
Feasting on the rich nectar inside
Sounds like a perfect Spring day.

Watery eyes, runny nose, sneezing all day long
Greet the morning with an aching head
If that isn’t enough, the itches start
Nose, mouth and skin.
Unlike a cold, you don’t get over it in a week or so
The itches, the sneezes, the headaches
All last forever
Or at least until the Spring time ends.

So next time you say
“Oh what a lovely Spring day”
Think about all us sufferers.
We can’t sit outside for more than a few minutes
Before it hits.
It’s starting now, my left eye is itching
My nose needs scratching too
I can feel a headache coming on as well.
It might be the best Spring day we have ever had
Everything looks so beautiful in bloom.
But I must return inside, where it is safer
The joy of Spring is here.
