Girl at Party

Girl at Party
Sheltered like an island from the sea of ice and rain outside
And without protection from the ice and frost outside
Drawn face too with her neck bent over and a grey
Ecru dress that stood alone
Among dresses that shimmered and sparkled,
She alone
In a grey dress that did not glitter like fashion
The silver did not shine too
The party was at 11
And with the icy night came the girl
Mark her boyfriend wasn’t there
And alone were the blue shimmery marks on her eyes
Wearing a perfume called Hope that had no real existence
But still smelt like roses
Maybe one rose
Wash me clean like the ice on a rose bush
She said
And outside she met Mark again
A car raced by distant and harsh
After a night of wine and smoke
And then her fur cape fluttered in the air
And into the distance Hope began to waft.
She looked away into the distance where she thought
Hope had gone,
