Red Afternoon

Red Afternoon

They travel down roads among green grass and roses
Green grass red with afternoon glare- This shine is absurd
It’s like blood, this red glare is absurd, It’s blood!
Ths music that we listen to is absurd- Rock!
Rock music in sacred summer!

And then there it is
A sacred door behind a sacred summer afternoon

She thinks ‘this is a day like no other
We are driving down together, my guy and me
We are enjoying an afternoon
Full of sun and colour and music’

Then she sees doors that don’t open, gates that lie as if…..
As if they don’t open too
Roses that you can’t pick
Grass that you can’t cut
Doors that you don’t want to open anyway

Still here is a door that is not to be opened
Not to be opened on a day like this anyway!
A day so quiet, so dry, with all the glare and the shine

She says ‘We are so lazy – we can’t go behind that red
That red wooden door which glares at us
Like the way the sun glares at all
Like the way the sun shines at us
Why?
For behind the door there lies
More colour, more sun, more roses, more green
There lies more red and more glare
From a streaming and burning sun’

Not to-day wiill they open the door
The sun is burning and they race by
Boy and girl race by race by
Just trying to catch a fleeting breeze, a breeze that escapes from
A sun among red roses.
