Polly Jean

She stands over her sleeping husband
With a kitchen knife in one hand
And a contract in the other
From the desk of the devil himself
The distant howling of the night
Drifts towards the bedroom
As Polly Jean contemplates
Thrusting the knife into his perfect chest
But in the back of her mind she knew
That she couldn’t do it
She couldn’t stand to watch the blood stream down his chiselled body
Like a river of injustice, of cruelty, of fear, of depression
She couldn’t watch the tears roll from his exquisite eyes and down to his distinguished face
That, she could not do
But the devil stands behind her
And she knows what she needs to be done
So Polly Jean raises her knife
The full moon reflecting from the blade
And she falls with a thud to the floor
With a kitchen knife in her heart
