to walk your boot

swam about my toes in open spaces
sweet leather
wet heel
to feel the arch
of my father’s step.

the pleasure of losing myself
knee narrowly escaping
the kick in time
through dirt and straw
oat and beer and shame

the weight of ache
sewn in every stitch and step
paced to feel humility

the church floor
feared.

last to hip
wish
to have known each acre well:
its berm, its curve and shake,
creatures ’neath

bless me!
bless me!
sing your song so sweet.
a kiss
could i see none
or dream its peace?

walk about
back
turn toe to me
and i
and i
will sleep

to walk your boot
