Mother

submersion of myself in poetry
like a baptism
Hoping so deeply that my skin undulates
my sins washed away with the passing
of sierra words, one to another
we pass words to discover
the secrets of the universe sown
Into the waft and weft threads of an eagle’s song
Of freedom as she soars
the messenger of the earth
The lullaby of the ocean
as she beats out a beginning,
a middle and an end
watching endlessly as she
is siphoned for her space
The requiem of the trees,
their pained and struggled whispers
Grazing my lips and hair
The soul of the earth as she shakes and spins and leans
Mother, talk of communion
of union
of times past
When we touched you tenderly,
when we dug our fingers into you,
when our lives began
We were sustained and ended in you
Talk to me through the voices
raised high in song and verse
By those possessed by your energy —
Talk to me through poetry
