Farewell, the-light

Plucking away at the fyreberries,

a bridge is built beneath which stains

my feet, wonder at what was only

imagination-like remembrances

of spring hung on a frost of winter

teasing my senses,

Pushing thru a walled poem,

laid brick by her secluded

offerings absently sliding down

from heaven,

Sliding on her glacier cliff,

humming softly to tread upon

paths of notes between the tinted stones,

Prising the wet watercolored foot prints

laid bare to feet that move

to the beat of her brush strokes,

changing two faces askew to appear

as one point of view.

With sticky fingers and wrists and arms

to the elbow, matted weather vanes

raising a sacrifice to her full pouted

lips as she fades into yesterday, like

a butterfly whose patterns shone so

bright they burned their painted calligraphy

into every aspect, diffusing, finally, to an

amber sunset, her mercurial silhouette,

Gingerly skipping within the shadows,

pulling rays of light to be bent for rings and

braclets and belts, to decorate the

tinges of goodbye within me,

Leaving a covering in a case

of midnight purple dye that will not be

rinsed or scrubbed, scolded or rubbed away,

flavoring my twinkling life and finally falling

against the moon to flutter, dreamlike, in

fairy wings breath flakes, like moondust,

snowing the careworn bridge and path

as a kindness from the universe to

conceal my doings;

For it would not bear well to know

that I have returned, the last,

seeking your silhouette, playing the

gatherer among the unicorn shadows,

who I see jumping from branch to branch,

but whom I can never catch to ask about

her, whose images disappear in the

ripples of night, in the stains of her essence

tattooing my skin.

So I bury face against hands to lose myself in her

intoxicating brilliance…let the branches grow

from me to feed the knowledge of my

bittersweet love to the fated lover destined

to beat this selfsame path and as one

we can lament this fruit of knowledge.

Farewell, the-light
