Peace of a Dove

The blood of your sweat
Extends to the edge of your hands
Your brow is soaked in scars of the past
The back of your palm calms as it blends
Try harder, try harder to meet the ends

The attacks won’t cease they’ll continue
The world whips with hate and despair
Not giving you the time to care
Push through it, push harder, don’t stop, don’t give in
You can’t let go for you need to defend

You want to take a rest and breathe
But any stop will allow them to see
The bags under your eyes show tired in frame
One hand holds the coffee to keep tabs on sane
As the other holds tight to the leather reigns

Your love pours from the heart where it’s stored
Into the little hands that beg and pray
You wring your heart of every drop it can spare
To show how much you really care
There are too many eyes with pleading stares

Not all will be taken, not all will find hope
Your job is to help those that don’t…cope
The day ends with tears and sniffles
You usher them to bed with hugs and assurance
Bundled in lies that next time will be better

You kiss them on the forehead wanting the best
You tuck them in wishing them sweet dreams
The light you switch off as you hear the soft coughs
You linger in the doorway and see them all drift
As you pray for their spirits to lift

The door you hold as a cane to stand
Slowly closes with your trembling hand
The day was long with the unwanted damaged
The difficult gives way to tears out your eyes
Wishing there were more of the cheerful goodbyes

In bed you’re thinking of tomorrow being better sports webs
Nothing allows your hope to burn bright
In charge of an Orphanage has brought you unlimited tears
You suck it up because you have to quiet their fears
For tomorrow is another day several miles—-
For tomorrow you’ll gift them all smiles
For you’ll push and push giving from the very core
Believing that they deserve that and so much more

No one is unwanted or lost without love

As long as they’re with you

Your heart formed from peace of a dove
