Artist's Description

American Pokeweed (Phytolacca americana) is considered a pest by many folks. But it has lovely color especially in Autumn. I love color! The stalk is bright as the berries turn dark and become food for birds. Best to avoid parking your car too close to this plant. Not joking! The plant is also called Inkberry and with good cause. The powerful color in the berries travels through a bird and if the little bomb of ink is dropped upon your car, there may be a colorful purplish stain to remove from your vehicle. This photo was taken in early Autumn beside The Little Tennessee River on The Greenway in Macon County, North Carolina, USA in the small town of Franklin.
