Artist's Description

A close up of a Burrowing Owl (Athene cunicularia) from near Pailon, Bolivia. These fantastic little owls are quite common here in Bolivia unlike in parts of North America where it is considered endangered or threatened. I frequently see them perched on fence posts or keeping watch at the entrance to their burrows. As their name implies, they do indeed live deep burrows underground.
