Tent-making Bat from Braulio Carrillo National Park, Costa Rica. May, 2009. I do not know the exact species of this bat so any ID help is welcome. I searched many bat “tents” until I found this one.
Tent-making bats cut ridges in the leaves of certain palm and heliconia plants so that the leaves fold into a “tent” to hide in during the day. An advantage to making their own home is that their hunting range in not limited to the area near their cave or tree hollow but instead can hunt as far as they wish and just make a new home.

Thank you! I think I checked over 50 empty bat ‘tents’ before I found this guy.
