Artist's Description

Death Valley looms through black and white television sets over the sea of sand that is white with soap and where acid smoke drops from the clouds to burned and abandoned buildings. Wow, the perfect place to land my life and paint in my own house that belongs to me. So what if it is not habitable. I can fix it. Like I fixed that broken boyfriend. Like I fixed those pants that were too tight. But they were on sale. Like I fixed the book from the Goodwill that had the last four pages missing. I don’t really need to know the ending. Or I can figure it out later. So I can bid on this house and move out where the coyote don’t want to roam because there are are no people to steal food from. And then it would be a two hour commute to work. But it would be so nice to have an extra room to have for an art studio. It doesn’t matter, though, because I was outbid.
“Desert House” is acrylic on Tyvek paper, 24 in. × 36 in. by John Fish, Feb. 2011.
