Artist's Description

Taken at the Kathmandu “Monkey Temple” (Swayambhunath Stupa), September 2008.
An important Buddhist pilgrimage site since the 5th Century, and now also inhabited by a colony of small brown, cheeky monkeys.
The mantra “Om Mani Padme Hum” is written in Sanskrit on each wheel and Buddhist belief says that spinning prayer wheels in a clockwise direction has the same meritorious effect as orally reciting the prayers.
Swayambhunath is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
