This is me ~ who am I?

This is me
This is who I am ~
and who I am to become

But who am I to become?
I do not know

Come and see
He says
but I am fearful
frightened
of the new
of what is to be
become

I shut my eyes tight
turn away
avert my head
lest I see
that which I cannot yet

Yet I stop.
Pause:
Wait…

And in the stillness
the quiet
reflect upon his words
those words of wisdom poured forth
through thousands upon thousands of ears
years

What do they truly mean
to me?

Everything I am
I have
each gift
talent
is of God
given

So it would follow that He would know why
and for what purpose
if I so choose to…

He knows every hair upon my head
by number
I cannot hide
He knows me
sees me
Loves me
well

Believes in me
and sees
knows
what and who I can be
will become

Artist's Description

I stumbled across this piece of writing today while hunting for something else. I wrote it in January 2002, over 8 years ago, in response to and after reflecting upon the morning’s readings and preaching in church.

And when I say ‘I’ wrote it, well I’m actually not at all certain I did, as it simply wrote itself.

But as so often happens when re-visiitng writings of years gone by, I am amazed at who I was when I wrote it and where I have travelled since then. And sometimes there is a poignancy about such inward self reflection and examination.
And revelation at God’s hand at work in me and in my life.
