Artist's Description

This drawing is an imaginary rock cliff I drew to experiment with my Copic pens soon after I got a set of them at the art store. I’ve always loved the texture of rocks and dirt, and I take photos of them often, but this image is completely made-up. It’s not something that really makes the image any better than if I had used reference, but a lot of the time people ask questions like this, so I’m answering it. It’s an experiment in texture, balance, shadow, and shading. I like the way it came out so I’m posting it on the store.

I used Copic Multiliner SP pigment-based pens. The paper is from a pad of Strathmore Mixed Media 300 series 90lb. paper. It’s 11″ × 14″ and comes in pads of 40 sheets. Other than Arches water color paper, Strathmore is by far my favorite brand of drawing paper. I use their recycled paper, and drawing paper products pretty often as well.
