Artist's Description

A conventional view of the Leven River from the upper-canyon walking track. An unconvetional dark blue ground was employed to add a receding quality to the brushwork as a means of conveying the wetness and subdued light of a Tasmanian winter. The white of the water was modified by glazing techniques (pioneered by Rembrandt and employed by Turner). This painting was shortlisted for the Poimena Art Prize. Oil on canvas, approx 80 cm by 100 cm (exact dimensions available on request).
