Artist's Description

The Black Rhinoceros or ‘hook-lipped’ rhinoceros (Diceros bicornis)
-An ancient creature stemming from the Oligocene epoch (34-24 million years ago). Black rhino’s were once the most widespread and numerous rhino, and notably the most successful of herbivores. However, their numbers and distribution has drastically declined with the rapid increase in human population. And their decline has been further accelerated in the last decade by illegal poaching for their horns, to the point where they have been pushed almost to the brink of extinction.

Though classified as “Critically endangered” (IUCN, red list), these ancient creatures continue to be killed needlessly for their protein horn. This needs to STOP NOW!

South Africa is waging a war against the illegal trade of poached rhino horns. And to help win the battle, the Wildlife & Cultural Centre at the Legend Golf &Safari Resort in Limpopo Province, is establishing South Africa’s first not-for-profit specialist centre, dedicated to the care of baby rhino’s orphaned by poaching. Please help support this rhino orphanage and make a contribution today, in order to ensure a rhino’s tomorrow.
