Artist's Description

Boats lying dry near the lighthouse of Buelk at the outer Kiel Fjord (Kieler Förde) on an early summer morning in August. Normally you do not have ebb and flood here at the Baltic Sea, but strong southerly winds can drive the water out of the fjord and lower the sea-level a bit, just to make these boats lie dry. In the distance on the right you can see the lighthouse of Friedrichsort which marks the entrance to the inner fjord. The gulls on the mole are a typical early-morning phenomenon; when people start to come along they usually fly away.
