Confessions

How have I forgotten you, my creator?
I fear that I have fallen into ranks of the nameless,
The countless outside of your book of life,
That I have given in my life.
As if the pleasures of the world could save me,
And by their desires render me blameless.

Your way is straight and narrow, and mine
Wanders, like a river without a course.
In my soul I know where I must flow,
But my feet falter, and fail,
And do not rally to my hearts cry,
And three more times my lips deny.

Again I hide from the shadow of your cross,
I fear that covered by it I will have lost all,
Yet I know without it all is lost.
On frail knees I collapse, words fail me.
Yet words alone could never prevail,
Nor alone save my soul from hell.
