Artist's Description

The Golden Gate Bridge, which was started in 1933, was completed in 1937 and opened to traffic in May of 37. It was, at that time, the longest and highest suspension bridge and has since been defeated by the Verrezzano Bridge in New York. The bridge spans the straits from San Francisco to the Marine Headlands for the trip North. It is a spectacular sight at any time of day, but is forever remembered for the fog that encloses over the span, sometimes from early morning to mid afternoon.
The building under the bridge is Fort Point a Civil War building that was to be used to keep any enemies from their shores.
