Artist's Description

Buddhist flags fluttering in the breeze on the bridge over the Kalu Ganga at Kalutara, Sri Lanka. The flag was designed in 1880 to commemorate the revival of Buddhism in Ceylon (as it was called then). The colors represent universal compassion (blue), the middle path (yellow), blessings (red), purity and liberation (white), and wisdom (orange); the sixth stripe is a combination of all of these.
