Artist's Description

No one is born bad. We forget that even the worst villains (real and imagined) were once sweet-faced children.

This art series, inspired by Margaret Keane’s “Big-Eyed Waifs,” talks about how bad luck and a cruel world can mangle the most innocent of spirits into bad guys, but at the same time, reminds us that we/they weren’t always evil.

All works presented as Bitty Baddies are a work of parody and protected under fair use copyright laws.

Fair use is the practice of any copying of copyrighted material done for a limited and “transformative” purpose, such as to comment upon, criticize, or parody a copyrighted work. A parody is a work that ridicules another, usually well-known work, by imitating it in a comic way. Judges understand that, by its nature, parody demands some taking from the original work being parodied. Unlike other forms of fair use, a fairly extensive use of the original work is permitted in a parody in order to “conjure up” the original.

All Bitty Baddies make fun of the idea of “villainy” by presenting the bad guys as innocent youths.
